Rio Tinto Facing Charges over Safety at Diavik

Rio Tinto faces four charges for alleged safety lapses at its Diavik diamond mine in Canada, filed by the Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission in the Northwest Territories’ Territorial Court last month.

The charges, stemming from a safety officers' investigation into a past incident causing a "serious worker injury," include violations of the Mine Health and Safety Act. The court date is set for March 19, following a separate incident last month where remote mine employees were killed in a plane crash, requiring a six-month investigation.
