Akmakjian, who currently serves as Director of Jeweler Relations at BriteCo, steps into the leadership role with more than a decade of experience in jewellery marketing, retail, and wholesale, along with a background in running her own bespoke jewellery business, Ariane Diamonds.

In her new role, Akmakjian will spearhead the chapter’s initiatives to advance the careers of women in the jewellery industry through networking events, educational programs, and member support services.

A certified Graduate Gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America, Akmakjian brings a wealth of knowledge in gem identification and grading. Her diverse experience and deep understanding of the industry position her well to guide the chapter through a dynamic and evolving marketplace.

“I am honored to step into this role and look forward to engaging with the incredibly talented women in our industry, learning from their experiences, sharing ideas, and fostering meaningful connections,” Akmakjian said. “Chicago’s historic jewelry district has long been a hub of creativity and craftsmanship. I’m excited to reignite a greater sense of community here—bringing together designers, retailers, and industry professionals to collaborate, support one another, and celebrate the artistry that makes our field so special.”

The WJA is a national organisation dedicated to the advancement of women in the jewellery and watch industries. Akmakjian’s appointment signals a renewed focus on collaboration and innovation within the Chicago jewellery scene.
