Lucara Diamond Corp. has announced the recovery of a 36.92-carat blue diamond from its Karowe Mine in Botswana, marking a notable addition to the mine’s portfolio of high-value stones. The diamond has been classified as a Type IIb stone, a rare category characterized by the presence of boron, which imparts a blue hue and is associated with exceptional market value.

The diamond was recovered through the processing of historic stockpile material using X-ray transmission (XRT) technology. This method continues to enable the identification and recovery of large, high-quality stones that may have been missed during earlier processing cycles.

Lucara reported that, in addition to this find, it has recovered five diamonds exceeding 100 carats from stockpile processing in 2026 to date. The development underscores the ongoing contribution of tailings and stockpile treatment to overall production, particularly as mining companies seek to maximize yield from existing resources.

The Karowe Mine remains known for producing large and high-quality diamonds, including rare stones across categories. The recovery of a blue diamond of this size reinforces its position within the global supply chain for exceptional stones.

The find comes amid a period of moderated rough diamond demand, highlighting the continued importance of high-value recoveries in supporting revenue streams for producers.
