Lucara Diamond Corp. has announced the recovery of an exceptional 1,305.4-carat rough diamond from its Karowe Mine in Botswana, marking the tenth diamond weighing more than 1,000 carats recovered from the operation since production began. The company announced the discovery on 13 July 2026.
The white gem-quality diamond was recovered intact using Lucara’s proprietary Mega Diamond Recovery (MDR) X-ray transmission technology, which is designed to detect and recover large diamonds without exposing them to the crushing processes used in conventional recovery circuits.
According to the company, the origin of the diamond has not yet been confirmed, with further analysis required to determine whether it was recovered from current open-pit production or from stockpiled ore processed at the mine.
Karowe continues to distinguish itself as one of the world’s most prolific sources of large, high-value rough diamonds. The latest recovery follows a series of notable discoveries from the mine, including the 2,492-carat Motswedi recovered in 2024, the 2,036-carat rough diamond recovered in 2025, the 1,758-carat Sewelô in 2019 and the 1,111-carat Lesedi La Rona in 2015.
Commenting on the recovery, William Lamb, President and Chief Executive Officer of Lucara Diamond Corp., said the discovery of the company’s tenth diamond exceeding 1,000 carats represents another milestone for the Karowe Mine and reflects the unique characteristics of its orebody.
The recovery comes as Lucara continues to advance the Karowe Underground Project, aimed at extending the mine’s production life while maintaining its focus on recovering large, high-value diamonds.
