Lucara Diamond Corp. has recently announced the recovery of several significant rough diamonds from its latest production cycle at the Karowe mine in Botswana, with the largest standout weighing an impressive 320 carats. Described as a "stunning" gem-quality light-brown diamond, this notable find was accompanied by a "magnificent" 111-carat type IIa white diamond and two additional white type IIa stones weighing over 50 carats each. Additionally, Lucara disclosed the discovery of numerous high-value diamonds exceeding 10.8 carats.
These remarkable diamonds were sourced directly from the milling of kimberlite ore from the EM/PK(S) area within Karowe's south lobe, renowned for its abundant yield of large, high-value rough diamonds. Currently, Lucara is actively pursuing an underground expansion project at Karowe, which is anticipated to extract over 95% of its ore from the EM/PK(S) sector during its initial three years of operation.
William Lamb, CEO of Lucara, expressed enthusiasm over the latest diamond recoveries, particularly from the EM/PK(S) domain, affirming the exceptional quality and potential of the Karowe mine. He emphasized the company's continued success in uncovering large, high-value diamonds, further solidifying Lucara's reputation as a prominent producer of exquisite gem diamonds.
