Starting from 2025, this feature will expand to include diamonds above 1 carat in rough form, equivalent to approximately 0.5 carats in polished form. This milestone is expected to align with emerging diamond import regulations among G7 countries, enhancing traceability standards and consumer confidence across global markets.

For the first time, De Beers customers will have access to information detailing the individual journey of each diamond, allowing for a deeper connection with the origin story behind each piece of jewellery. This new approach reinforces De Beers’ commitment to transparency and ethical sourcing, central to its Origins strategy. The announcement was made at the "Spotlight on Diamonds" event in Paris, where De Beers also shared updates on its sustainability initiatives under the Building Forever framework, which prioritizes livelihoods, climate action, and natural preservation.

Al Cook, CEO of De Beers Group, expressed the significance of this development, stating, “For the first time in history, we have the technology to provide our customers with the provenance of their diamonds at scale. Our ambition is to offer them the story of every De Beers-sourced diamond, tracing its journey and positive impact from its origin to its crafting.”

Previously, the Tracr platform attributed diamonds with a "DTC origin," signifying they came from one of De Beers’ operations in Botswana, Canada, Namibia, or South Africa. Through advancements in scanning technology and artificial intelligence, Tracr can now accurately assign a single-country origin to each diamond, eliminating the need to blend diamonds from multiple regions. This evolution in diamond tracking is made possible by innovative algorithmic matching and new proprietary scanning tools developed in De Beers' key production hubs.

As De Beers progresses with its Origins strategy, the company aims to increase the share of diamonds registered on Tracr, collaborating with businesses and entities throughout the diamond value chain. The platform’s expanded reach is set to further enhance the diamond industry’s commitment to transparency and sustainability.
