Eighteen students receive graduating diplomas from GIA
GIA (Gemological Institute of America) hosted its Graduate Diamonds (GD) commencement on May 30 in Mumbai with 18 students earning diplomas in a special ceremony presided by Mr. Vijay Jain, CEO and director of Orra. The ceremony also hosted Manoj Singhania, GIA director of education in India, Aditi Parab, GIA instructor, amongst others.

Mr, Jain presented students with diplomas and shared some advice from his experience in the retail jewellery business. He said, “In the past there were very limited opportunities for people who wanted to join the gem and jewellery industry, but today GIA is helping to develop the kind of talent that will flourish in this industry.”

The GD Diploma empowers students with comprehensive knowledge of GIA’s International Diamond Grading System™ and provides in-depth training in the 4Cs of a diamond. Students learn about advanced gemmological techniques including how to detect and identify synthetics, simulants, treatments and fracture-filled diamonds. Classroom lessons, hands-on learning through regular market visits deliver an understanding of day-to-day business.
