With the focus of encourage bilateral trade with the gem and jewellery industry of Pakistan, The Gem & Jewellery Export Council (GJEPC), the apex body of the Indian gems and jewellery industry participated at the ‘India Show’ in Lahore, Pakistan, with a delegation of 18 member companies. The India Show was organized by FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry) from 11-13 February 2012, witnessing participation from India’s leading gems and jewellery exporters.

This was the first of its kind, initiative supported by GJEPC.

Commenting on India Show, said Mr Rajiv Jain, Chairman, GJEPC, “The Indian GJI market is estimated to be worth 20 bn US$ and Pakistan market is estimated to be around US$ 10bn. Besides certain inherent strengths of both nations, India has already been announced as MOST PREFERRED NATION by Pakistan and we believe it is the right time to break all trade barriers and sign FTA (free trade agreement) to further expand our bi-lateral trade.”

The strategic decision to host India Show in Pakistan is an attempt to exchange skills sets, understand the intricacies of local trade and mutually discover a great lineage of design and craftsmanship. Pakistan is already an importer of Indian goods from free trade centers like Dubai, Hong Kong and a platform as the India Show would encourage better understanding between the two countries. The show is a B2C platform, yet it aims at initiating a good beginning.
