Astronomers discover diamond planet

Astronomers at the University of Manchester have discovered a planet made of diamonds - the planet is part of a binary star system located 4,000 light-years from Earth ad is part of a once-massive star, now reduced to solid crystal-like carbon – diamond, reports say. The discovery was led by discovery of a star called a pulsar, which emits a beam of radio waves ad this in turn led upto the finding of a small planet orbiting the pulsar. The pulsar is a millisecond pulsar that spins at more than 10,000 times per minute.

The density means that this material is certain to be crystalline: that is, a large part of the star may be similar to a diamond, the team explained.
