BASELWORLD receives GACG Award 2010

The World Watch and Jewellery Show BASELWORLD was recently honoured with the GACG Award 2010 for its fight against product piracy and for protection of intellectual property. The award was presented on the World Day against Counterfeiting in Paris, by the Global Anti-Counterfeiting Group (GACG). The GACG Award 2010, or as it is referred to in Paris as the “Trophée de l'Authentique”, was made especially to recognise endeavours of the BASELWORLD Panel, which, as an internal arbitration tribunal for the show, has been protecting intellectual property for over 25 years. The BASELWORLD Panel has become established as a key institution here.

In the framework of the World Watch and Jewellery Show, if anyone feels their immaterial property rights have been violated through display of an object at the show can contact the BASELWORLD Panel, which decides within a day whether rights to a design, to trademarks or to invention patents or of copyrighted products are violated. The decisions taken by the BASELWORLD Panel frequently have a major impact even beyond the actual show. Also, the MCH Group Ltd., as the organiser of BASELWORLD, is committed to tackling counterfeit products throughout the rest of the year, through its close cooperation with the watch and jewellery industry associations and the information received in countries in which the counterfeit products originate.
