India to host DTC Jewellery contest

The diamond trading company (DTC) is all set to launch its second diamond jewellery contest in November 2006.

The first contest held in 2004 was on the theme diamonds: natures miracle while this years design theme is celebrating diamonds: timeless myths and magic.
The award winning collections will be featured at an esteemed global diamond event scheduled on November 16 in India as a part of a spectacular diamond extravaganza, which will be showcased around the world in the coming years.

World leading authorities on diamonds from both consumer and industry vie point will form a panel to search the stunning diamond collections. The panel will look out for the designs that best suit the inspiration of the theme.

These will be exhibited in front of an esteemed high profile guest list of international media and celebrities that will assemble where 80% of the worlds diamonds are processed and also where diamonds were first discovered 4000 years ago, in India.

More than 1,500 collections applied for the 2004 contest and among them, 39 collections created by designers from 14 countries won awards. Two Hong Kong designers, two Taiwan designers and three from the Chinese mainland were among the winners.

According to Christine Cheung, head of Diamond Marketing Group for China, more Chinese designers will apply for this years contest.

Chinas diamond jewellery is still in infant stages but a recent survey showed that diamond jewelry is the type of jewellery most desired by Chinese women, this reflects potential in the Chinese market.
