Commission set up for Africas Diamonds Producers Conference

A multisectoral preparatory commission tasked with analysing the constitution of the African Diamonds Producers Association was created by the Cabinet Council, according to a statement published in the State Gazette series I number14 of February 14, 2006. It is made up of representatives from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs (coordinator), Geology and Mining, Finances as well as the state-owned National Diamonds Company (ENDIAMA).

According to the statement, the commissions coordinator may invite, if necessary, other entities whose participation can be considered pertinent. Signed by the Prime Minister, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, the document states that in a 45-day period an action chronogram and its respective budget has to be presented by the commission, outside of the State General Budget.

The initiative is a result of the African countries producers of diamonds interest in creating an inter-governmental association, to defend their common interests.
