A Memorandum of Understanding to the effect of helping upskill artisans in the jewellery sector of Rajasthan was signed between the Gem & Jewellery Skill Council of India (GJSCI), the Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery Jaipur (IIGJJ) and the Sarafa Traders Committee of Jaipur, reports say.

The three organisations have a focus to support the jewellery and gemstone industry become more organised with the help of providing the opportunity for artisans to up-skill. The three are also looking at mapping the future manpower requirement and industry growth, reports add.

The MOU outlines a collaboration between the three entities for providing training and RPL (recognition of prior learning) certification to around 20,000 gold jewellery artisans in a year. The programme is part of the central government’s ambitious mega project – the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas (PMKVY) scheme, reports add.
