The 8th Jaipur Jewellery Show has unfolded today in Jaipur, and is expecting a healthy turnout and trade outlook. Personalities from the trade and other sectors visited the event including Principal Secretary, Industries and Chairman of RIICO, Mr. Sunil Arora as guest of honour , in place of Additional Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, Mr. D.K. Mittal who was to attend as chief guest but was detained by some official work. Mr.Kasif from Israel and Mr. Alex Popov , President Moscow Diamond Bourse were special guests at the event.

On day one a book published on the ‘Understanding of Rough Stones’ was launched and dedicated to late Rashmikant Durlabhji. A JJS show guide has been published and released by DiamondWorld and Indian Jeweller Magazine. A special business lounge has been created by JYWS Jewellers Youth and Welfare Society) for recreation and networking for exhibitors and the buyers.

This edition of JJS slated between 24-27 December has been conceptualised on the theme - Kundan Meena… A tradition that goes on the generations. Kundan Meena jewellery has been patronized by Jaipur, and revered by jewellery enthusiasts across the globe. The JJS remains a key platform to promote this tradition. Its unique positioning as being the only platform which is simultaneously a B2B and B2C event, the show sees a large number of local and international clients and jewellery enthusiasts.

According to JJS convener, Mr. Vimal Chand Surana in Jaipur, 18 carat gold and diamond jewellery is a popular choice among both exporters and local customers. The city’s gem and jewellery industry has seen good demand, and with the time of the event coinciding with the ongoing wedding and festive season, the exhibitors and participants are expecting good response. There has been a growth in exhibitor count over last year to 413 booths, and it indicates that the Jaipur gem and jewellery sector has potential to grow and seems to be less impacted with economic stress, which JJS spokesperson Mr. Ajay Kala suggests is due to 'jewellery being a safe investment option and traders in the city trading at very nominal margins'.

With both the show and the city's gem and jewellery trade enjoying positive demand and response, JJS Hony. Secretary, Mr. Rajiv Jain said that until now Jaipur has been renowned the world over as the ‘gem city’ which is now gradually changing as a reputed ‘jewellery city’, with jewellers creating new designs meeting consumer demand. JJS 2010 would showcase jewellery from seven countries across the globe and 10 cities of India. This year’s edition saw 99 percent of the exhibitors being the same as before, instilling a sense of confidence in the show.

JJS Hony. Secretary, Mr. Rajiv Jain added that - "Total exports from India are worth 30 billion dollars, an increase of 35 percent then last year, while the coloured stone section has dipped 2.5 percent over last year, and growth is something that is targeted till March 2011."

Also, with growth being the key focus for the city’s gem and jewellery trade, the need of the hour is for better infrastructure to house more booths, taking the present 411 booths to a number like 1000. JJS being a non-profit organization, with funds used in trade promotion, a larger canvas would propel growth.
