This year, the basket of the Las Vegas shows including – AGTA show, Couture show, Antique show, JCK show, concluded with mild to moderate optimism. Buyer response was low-keyed for the AGTA Show, a coloured gemstone specific show, with semi- precious stones receiving below average response, tanazanite average response, although sapphires and emeralds getting the better share of the buyer attention.

The Couture Show delivered a lot more new companies and innovation in design, which retailers caught onto, to stay ahead of the product clutter. The show scale was larger this year with around eight diamantaires seeking to work with only high end and independent jewellers of America and Europe.

The Antique Show, ever popular amongst the American buyers to search antique goods and also liquidate them, received fair buyer attention. Buyers are always seeking to source something cheap and fetch higher margins. The JCK Show trade was moderate, with good jewellery sales and loose diamonds fairing better than expected; indicating an upward trend in the U.S. market. Sellers were confident on pricing and expect prices to rise in the future, which also made buyers purchase now. There was a 20 percent increase in buyer registration over last year and JCK show next year will move to Mandlay Bay in 2011.

The trade mood at the JCK Las Vegas Shows with both good and mild buyer response, seemed to be the effects of: the US currency gaining, a weakening Euro, falling Indian ruppee, gold prices touching new highs, higher diamond asking prices, negligible or no margin for diamond manufacturer due to very high rough prices and polished prices remaining the same, and the European economic crises, and better quarter retail sales in US.
