The overriding sentiment on the JCK Vegas floor was one of mild optimism, as good footfalls and increased purchases reflected the gradual recovery in consumer confidence levels in key markets. Exhibitors report a modest 5 percent rise in business, and expect the momentum to continue. Business appears to be relatively stronger in the basic bridal category, and cost-effective design options with more coloured stones and silver, are more popular. This year the week-long show has been converted into a four-day event.
Confidence was also boosted by a good response at The Antique and Couture Show held just prior to JCK. However the AGTA Show, a coloured gemstone focused event which coincided with JCK Las Vegas, was comparatively slower, and prices of tanzanite were estimated to have risen by 5-10 percent following reports of the Tanzanian government’s move to curb exports of the raw stone.
