In order to control spread of Coronavirus, measures enforced by the Hong Kong government on March 19 have made it mandatory for all travellers arriving in the city to isolate themselves for 14 days. These measures have been taken to control the second wave of coronavirus cases. The rule will remain in effect until June 18, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) noted in a statement on its website.

Overseas exhibitors and buyers will have “great difficulty” attending the Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show and the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show, which are currently scheduled for May 18 to 21. Organisers are now working on alternative arrangements for the events.
The organising council has decided to suspend all preparations for the ‘twin fairs’. They are trying to come up with alternative arrangements, in order to compensate their stakeholders. The organising council will announce its alternative, once it has decided upon it. Around 2,000 exhibitors had committed to renting booths for the May shows before the Hong Kong Tourism Development Council (HKTDC) stopped processing applications.

While Hong Kong was initially successful in limiting the spread of COVID-19, its case count has risen in recent weeks due to people arriving from elsewhere in the world. On March 23, it also banned all non-residents from visiting for the next two weeks.

The Hong Kong government is working in sync with industry personnel to provide them with a safe and effective trading platform, and will continue helping companies to capture business opportunities through multiple channels.
