The new stars of World Jewellery Sparkle at Vicenza

This is the age of glamour and dazzling treats – haute couture wonderland that’s sure to take the ‘normal’ world by surprise.

At the Vicenza Jewellery Fair in the newly created Hall B1, the creations presented by brand Staurino Fratelli stand out as unique. There is a cocktail reception at their booth, which is as tastefully arranged as their jewels. Born into a family of jewellers whose roots date back to 1890, Stefano and Davide Staurino have been breathing gold spangled air and playing with diamonds practically since their birth. Good-looking and equally talented, the brothers know how to enjoy life. Delightful snacks mixed with the flavours of impeccably chosen fine Italian wine, the best of champagne and gorgeous women modelling the stunning pieces, heighten the senses of pleasure at the stand of Staurino Fratelli where the Show goes full on.

Handicraft Jewellery Catches on:

Handicraft, a passion for design, the love for nature: those have always been the main characteristics of the Maison Staurino Fratelli, established in the 1960s, during a period when Italian culture was looking at the future with renewed optimism, a period of great changes and creative frenzy.

Staurino Fratelli was established in Valenza and soon became a point of reference in the world of handicraft jewellery, thanks to the stylistic quality and hand-made production of its works.

Maintaining Great Handicraft Tradition:

Today, the brothers Davide and Stefano Staurino manage the 40-year long successful Maison, the third generation of the family. Their task is maintaining the great handicraft tradition characterising the Maison, adding modern impetus and features, to create highly prestigious and modern jewels, which of course will play a leading role in international jewellery. Their greatest source of inspiration is “Life and all the beautiful things life has to offer,” says Davide, “I’m optimistic by nature, and I love fun. Lovely things inspire me.”

This is how the love for simple and pure lines and the most refined elegance characterising the works of Staurino Fratelli are joined by the constantly evolving technological research. Today, the works of the Maison are known and appreciated thanks to their creativity and their modern charm.

Designing for Heavy Weights:

Davide and Stefano have also designed jewellery and done some work for a couple of big names. “We had to learn such a lot, and we had to look around a bit too. In this way we worked for Van Cleef & Arples, and Cartier,” reveals Stefano.

The matter is transformed by a sophisticated and delicate play on colors and lights in which forms and proportions reveal their original beauty through an endless creative process.

Jewellery should be Timeless:

“A piece of jewellery should have a certain timelessness. No one wants to spend a couple of thousand euros on a necklace that will only be worn once,” explains Davide, “That’s ridiculous, and a great waste of time and money as well. A frock for one special evening is permissible, but a piece of jewellery isn’t. There’s so much love and work involved in it, and that has to be visible so that you want to wear it more often.”

Hand-in-hand with business is their involvement with social work and charitable organisations, “otherwise it becomes only a way to make money,” expresses Stefano. The Company helps charities like the Red Cross and the Italian Cancer Research Association. They also designed a timepiece to celebrate the 2004 Olympics in Athens.

Staurino Fratelli means the pure will to create, pure love for beauty, be it in the Prêt-à-Porter collections or in the exclusive Haute Joaillerie.

Jewels that can be worn every day or unique custom-made masterpieces for exceptional soirées… they all provide maximum versatility to accompany a woman on any occasion.

Seduction with Malice:

At Orogemma, September 2006, Staurino Fratelli enriched its Renaissance range by adding the sumptuous Malice necklace inspired by the luxury of the corsets that Renaissance ladies used to wear and that have become a staple tool of late nineteenth-century seduction.

The necklace skilfully resembles a precious V-scooped neck in which precious gold and diamond ties seem to cheekily drive the eye to the wearer’s décolletage.

Alluring and sexy, Malice means to be a take on the elegant, seductive atmosphere that hovered about the nineteenth-century European courts. Davide comments, “We really love beautiful things and we like to be inspired by the old master craftsmen. We’ve made lots of lovely things both with and for them.”

Elegance in Mistral:

From its already well-known research on purity of shapes and colors arises the sophisticated collection that Staurino Fratelli presented at Vicenza edition for the first time.

Mistral is the original line of jewels dedicated to the wind, which seems to draw soft and elegant buttery-soft shapes in the air with an invisible pencil. This is how unusual Haute Joaillerie creations are shaped, with a precious combination of white and black gold: real diamond “ribbons” and gems decorated and enhanced by thin golden lines - designed for elegant women who want to enhance their charm with jewels.

Commercial Originality Needed:

At its third generation, Davide and Stefano Staurino are protagonists; thanks to a special design that enriches the family tradition with contemporary hints and modern accents. What are the new considerations in design then? Stefano answers, “Commercial originality, that’s what it’s all about. It shouldn’t be too original or too grandiloquent. The client should be able to understand it, and also be able to wear it. Too many colors or a surplus of gemstones is great for a flashy photograph or for a museum, but if it is something to be worn then it should be reasonably well-organised.”

The Magnificence of Opera:

The sumptuous design by Staurino is embodied with refined elegance by the new Opera Collection : it was created for the Couture Award, the most prestigious international event of the year, and is clearly inspired by the world of opera singing in terms of riches and opulence, since it exhibits the luxury of jewel shining in the limelight.

Harmonious Black Diamonds:

The harmony of lines in black diamonds mirrors the melodies of music notes that, against splendid white volutes, recall symphonies dancing on the stage. What type of woman do they like to design for? “The type of woman with her own credit card and who doesn’t have to wait for her husband to give her something special when and if he feels like doing so. The sophisticated independent Sex and the City type of woman- the woman who decides herself whether she gives herself a Christmas gift every month,” clarifies Stefano.

Long Chains In:

Revealing the up-coming trends Davide says, “Long chains will be in this year – no doubt about it!” Stefano adds, “And black diamonds. Everyone’s keen on dramatic effects and black diamonds are as dramatic as it gets. What’s more, they’re not too expensive.” Luxury has no boundaries. Just like seduction. Just like Staurino Fratelli.
