Astaguru’s upcoming Jewellery& Silver auction that is scheduled to take place in the month of November includes artefacts of various time periods and influences. The auction which will take place online, over the span of two days has something in store for the fancy of all demographics of the collector community. The lots range from indigenous antiques representing the design patterns of different parts of India, to artefacts with princely and aristocratic provenances such as the Royals of Patiala and the Nizam of Hyderabad.

The auction will also include an impressive number of European jewellery and silver pieces as well. For instance towards the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Indian jewellery design began to reflect influences from the Occident. Design evolved and even renowned European makers like Cartier began to create pieces for Indian maharajahs. This design element is imbibed in the aristocratic, diamond, ruby, emerald and gold studded Sarpech from the estate of the Maharaja of Patiala Bhupinder Singh which is part of Astaguru’s Jewellery& Silver auction. A fusion of cultural influence is evident in this lot wherein Indian stones were structured with Parisian design patterns.

Another interesting lot is the Navaratna/Navgrah stones studded with diamonds in pink enamel work, its composition is based upon the principle wherein nine kinds of precious stones were amalgamated in one singular piece of jewellery to represent the nine gods of the Hindu universe. Another stellar lot which is going to be one of the highlights of this upcoming auction is an elegant Natural Pearls necklace. Consisting of 766 natural pearls strung in perfect gliding symmetry on seven graduating strands, the size of the pearls are remarkable with the focal segment pearl measuring at 12.55 mm. Apart from subtle colours, glints of rose and green overtones iridescently glimmer, therefore these pearls are also referred to as ‘Orient of Pearls’. The sourcing and collating of these saltwater pearls of retracting sizes, displays immense rarity and exceptional skilled craftsmanship. The necklace weighs 180.4 grams including the clasp which has a pink sapphire and diamonds studded.

Astaguru has also curated an interesting silverware collection with lots such a magnificent Kashmiri Pandan. The gangplank of the boat can be raised while one side of it is hinged, underneath two well-crafted cylindrical compartments with silver spoons. The frieze has a smooth inlay of Kashmiri patterns. This silver Kashmiri Pandanis a large decorative piece of art. Another interesting lot is a French silver gilt, gem set & enamel chalice. The heavily decorated tapering bowl with acanthus leaves & grapevines is mounted on a sprawling hexagonal foot. The central knop is studded with red coloured gem stones and acanthus leaves. The base is decorated and engraved with enameled medallions of the St. Mary, St. Joseph and the crucified Christ. The chalice has its lozenge mark & hallmark on the bowl and on the foot, made by Louis & Pierre Gille in Lyon, France; circa 1889.

After a successful Indian Modern art auction in August, Astaguru’s next auction displays their versatility and has created a buzz of anticipation and intrigue.
