The 6th edition of the India International Jewellery Week 2015 powered by GIA was glittering on its first day - 3rd August, with much glamour lent by celebrities and the shimmering jewellery by leading jewellery companies.

Creations by five graduates from the Indian Institute of Gems and Jewellery, Mumbai presented by Emerald, were unveiled. A silver jewellery collection entitled Lotus SSutra by Gitanjali Sahijwaala is inspired by the Enlightened One. The lotus pendant, haath phool, draped necklace with kada, were some highlights. The “Druzy Dzire” collection by Shimani Agarwal was both contemporary and affordable. It included a special quality of agates in their natural aesthetics giving an almost unfinished and rough treatment. Tanya Ajmera presented “Feathers of Paradise” was inspired by the age old feathers and included fly away earrings to delicate necklaces and ornaments; the jewellery swayed from long, almost invisible gold strings. Madhura Bhelkar’s “Honey Comb” collection was inspired by the intricate hexagon honey comb and honey bees with jewellery appearing in hexagon shapes that appeared as cut-outs or pieces for necklaces. The “Candere Collection” by Karan Agarwal included high chokers embellished with 3D petals as the focal point. Precious gems, diamonds and waist length Raani Haar, Tikkas, were part pf this collection. The finale piece worn by the show stopper, Jatalika Malhotra, Miss India 2014, was a one-shoulder draped peacock necklace, grand cummerbund, hair ornament and cluster of assorted bangles.

Aum Monica Kapur the brand started by Monica Kapur showcased some exotic ornaments. The collection was entitled “Cupid” by Monica Kapur and was presented by BVC Logistics Pvt Ltd at the show. Her showstopper collection was worn by TV actor Karan Veer Bohra, who wore a a “Kagli” – a regal paisley ornament for his yellow turban. The designer unleashed a line of mind-boggling necklaces, haslis, earrings, Rani Haars, bracelets, rings and pendants for all occasions. The patterns revolved around nature’s elements combined with gold and diamonds, precious and semi-precious gems.
