The 8th edition of IIJS Signature began on a rather slow note. The four day show was held at Bombay Exhibition Centre from 20th – 23rd February 2015.

Many of the exhibitors said that the show had lesser footfall as the wedding season is already over. However, the genuine buyers kept coming in which showed that market sentiment are not all that bad. Among the segments, gold exhibitors were the happiest of the lot as gold segment witness maximum movement. This again indicates that yellow metal continues to shine.

Amongst the jewellery, there was a lot of lightweight jewellery be it in gold or in diamonds or precious stones. The striking point to note here was the presence of ‘peacock’ be it colours or motifs in all kinds of jewellery. Even in gold jewellery, a lot of enameling, filigree, colour painted jewellery was seen.

Diamond World spoke to few exhibitors. Here’s what they had to say about the show.

“This year the show was slower that last year. However, we had good opening, but the second day onwards again the responses have been slowing down. On the third, ongoing World Cup played a big spoiler as in our country everything comes to a standstill if Indian cricket team is at the crease.” -Rahil Srivastav, Marketing Manager, Varni Gems

“For CVM exports, the show was good. We got good response, which is better than last year. Trade is happening, which is a good sign. I feel established houses face no problem in the show; may be new names find it difficult to establish them at the show.” - Deepak Choksi, Owner, CVM Exports

“For us, it was an average show but better than last year. However, I must say that right kind of people is coming. Overall, there are fewer footfalls this year.” - Jitendra Jodhani, Jewel Goldi (India)

“We are first time exhibiting at Signature show. We have different jewellery on display and our newly launched collection ‘Fiza’ has been appreciated by many. Fiza is a Indo-persian art jewellery collection. Designed by a Brazilian designer, the collection has a fusion of polka, full cut diamonds, rose cut and precious stones like emerald, ruby and sapphire as well as French enamelling. For us the show was good. However, the placements of the stalls would be better. ” - Mukesh Gupta, Partner, V Sacheti Gems

“Ashi had good business. First day began rather on a slow note as it had fewer footfalls. Generally, at such shows, first two days are always of gold followed by loose stones and jewellery. We had decent show on the second day. Third day again was little slow, thanks to ongoing World Cup match. For us, the show was better than expectations. The show is a good platform for networking. However, timing of the show could have been better.” - Krishnendu Chatterjee, Ashi Jewellery Pvt Ltd.

“The show was slow. I am not happy with the placement of the stalls is bad. Customers are finding it difficult to locate the stall. There is a network issue as well.” - Anand Kulthia, Director, Kulthia Jewels

“Overall, market is slow. However, first day was good for us but now it is getting slower day-by-day. Organisers need to find better timing for the show.” - Vaishali Naik, Diagold Jewels Pvt Ltd, Kolkata

“The show was good. It’s a B2B show meant for networking and the purpose was meant during the show. The buyers are coming which means that the market sentiment is not that bad.” - Amish Kothari, Yunysha

“We deal in Columbian and Zambian emeralds. For us the show was good at least as compared to the last year’s show. So far we had 50 per cent business as compared to the last year’s business. Overall, there are fewer footfalls. Placement of the booths could have been better. Timing of the show is clashing with three other international shows like Dubai, Hong Kong and Bangkok. Therefore, international as well as domestic exhibitors are not ready to come here. You would find many big names missing from here.” - Sudhanshu Balduwa and Mahesh Khatoria, Shri Krishna Gems

“The show was very good. We received overseas orders. The only issue was related to the quality of the booth.” - Harish Pahuja, Chairman, CEO, Itan Jewels

Organised by GJEPC, this year the show housed 586 booths. The chief guest presiding over the inauguration of the show was Andrey Polyakov, Vice-President, ALROSA. The guests of honour were Shaina N. C., a renowned social worker and Kirtilal Doshi, Founder, Shrenuj & Company.
