High-key Inauguration:
Jaipur Jewellery Show-2007 began with a bang on December 22 amid an elite gathering. The Chief Guest of the event, Dr. Gaetano Cavalieri, Chief of the World Jewellery Federation (CIBJO) inaugurated the show with an attention-commanding speech. As expected the keynote address revolved around the sustainability factor of the global jewellery industry. Others who made their presence felt with their comments and speeches were Guest of Honour, Vasant Mehta, Vice-Chairman, GJEPC, Vimal Chand Surana, Convener-JJS and Rajiv Jain, Secretary-JJS.
Vasant Mehta stated this Show to be bigger than IIJS in terms of colorstone industry representation. All the VIPs on the dais expressed gratitude to the legendary Late Rashmikant Durlabhji who was an asset to the gems industry. Rajiv Jain said, “It is a matter of satisfaction for us, when we consider that as an exposition both as B2B and B2C JJS is actually the largest jewellery fair in the country. We have exhibitors from different countries like China,Turkey,Thailand,the USA and Dubai.”
Legends Epitomized:
‘Legends’ was the theme of the Fashion Show held on 23rd December evening to celebrate the legendary memory of Rashmikant Durlabhji. The show certainly lived up to the expectations set for it. The ramp opened with a special segment dedicated to Rashmikant Durlabhji. The show was divided into various segments with a different caption attached to each. Four segments on the ramp were Romance and Rhapsody, (A musical wherein the emerald story unfolds), Chandragupta Maurya - Ashoka Dynasty(Historical Era comes alive), Moghul Dynasty - Jodha Akbar (A Fragment of history unfolds) and Victorian & Renaissance (Where the mystical and magical re-live their passion). This memorable evening also marked the tanzanite poster launch.
New Gemstones Technology:
The second day of the show commenced with a seminar on new generation technology conducted by Rajneesh Bhandari a Chemical Engineer. The topics he covered focused synthetic diamonds, heat treatment of rubies and sapphires and coated diamonds.
JJS-Gold Souk Awards Night:
Pink City of Gems saluted the success of stalwarts of the industry in the December 23, 2007 evening organized by the Gold Souk and JJS. The attention of the audience was focused on Mandira Bedi hosting the show. Alluring performances by Yana Gupta and Shibani Kashyap were watched with rapt attention. Highlight of the evening was the Life Achievement Award that represented the ultimate tribute to a priceless gem-Late Rashmikant Durlabhji.
The awards function was bifurcated into two categories –the Regional and the National Awards. KPMG was appointed as the process validator to ensure transparency and objectivity in the selection criteria. DeBeers Group Marketing, WGC, GJEPC, PGI & GJF were the knowledge partners of the event. Regional Awards primarily focused on the Jaipur color stone industry while National Awards expressed due appreciation to those who have contributed immensely to the precious sector. Regional Awards were presented by actress Mahima Choudhary and the National Awards by Princess Dia.
JJS and Gold Souk Jewellery Awards 2007 proved to be an ideal event for recognizing the outstanding achievements of the Indian gems and jewellery entrepreneurs.
Tanzanite Quality Scale Launched in India:
On December 24 morning a seminar was conducted on ‘Tanzanite Grading’. Anna Haber from Tanzanite Foundation recounted history of Tanzanite. Vidhya Ullal, senior gemologist from the International Gemological Institute spoke about the Tanzanite Grading Scale and the techniques involved in tanzanite grading. Tanzanite Quality Scale has now been launched in India.
The Success Story of JJS-2007:
Anil Bherwani says, “The Show has been given a personal touch with every aspect of it taken care of”. He also thanked the organizing committee of JJS for such a wonderful show and added, “The management has been one of the best catering to the needs of every exhibitor which made it one of the finest shows.”
Abhishek Ghatiwala of Ghatiwala Jewellers stated, “This has become one of the most important events in Jaipur. Known for Jadau work and color stones, JJS has given good competition to IIJS”. He added, “In a period of five years JJS has risen above expectations. Jaipur never figured on the map of precious industry so prominently but JJS has helped Jaipur get recognition even from global players”.
