The collaboration is centred on a 34MW wind power project currently being developed by Namdeb at Kerbehuk, located approximately 45 kilometres north of Oranjemund. Under the terms of the agreement, Namdeb will initially use all electricity generated from the facility. However, the MoU also paves the way for potential future expansion to supply power to the NamPower grid.

The initiative forms part of Namdeb’s wider sustainability strategy, which includes transitioning its operations toward renewable energy sources. In 2023, the company introduced Namibia’s first battery-electric bus, marking the beginning of a broader shift to an electrified, clean-energy fleet.

Once operational, the Kerbehuk Wind Power Plant is expected to meet nearly half of Namdeb’s electricity requirements. Beyond supporting the company’s operational needs, the project is also designed to contribute to Namibia’s national energy security and climate resilience goals.

This partnership aligns with De Beers Group’s overarching sustainability objectives, including its “Building Forever” commitment to achieve carbon neutrality. The project further underscores Namibia’s growing leadership in Africa’s renewable energy transition, with the potential to deliver clean power not only to industrial operations but also to communities nationwide.
