The tender, titled Into the Light, features 52 lots with a combined weight of 45.44 carats. Highlights include a single fancy red diamond, 12 fancy violet stones, and 76 pink, purple-pink, and purplish-pink diamonds sourced from Argyle’s final legacy inventory. From Diavik, two flawless D-colour white diamonds are being offered: a 5.11-carat emerald cut and a 3.02-carat pear cut, both originating from the same rough stone.
“These Argyle pink, red and violet diamonds represent some of the very last of their kind in the world,” Rio Tinto said in a statement. The company added that the Diavik diamonds provide a striking counterpoint, underscoring the rarity of this concluding collection.
The lots will be showcased in Hong Kong, Australia, and Antwerp, with bidding set to close on October 20. Rio Tinto’s previous Beyond Rare tender, held in November 2024, achieved what the miner described as “strong results,” though no prices were disclosed.
Patrick Coppens, general manager of sales and marketing for Rio Tinto diamonds, emphasised the significance of the tender, calling it “the final chapter from two extraordinarily beautiful places on earth—the East Kimberley region of Western Australia and the Northwest Territories of Canada.”
With Argyle closed and Diavik approaching the end of its mine life, the tender marks a symbolic conclusion to Rio Tinto’s production of some of the world’s most coveted natural diamonds.
