Subject to shareholder approval, the appointment brings one of the diamond industry’s most experienced leaders to the helm, poised to steer IGI through its next phase of growth.

With over five decades of experience, Mehta is a highly regarded figure in the gem and jewellery industry, both in India and internationally. As the Chairman and Managing Director of Mohit Diamonds Pvt. Ltd. and President of the Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB), he has been instrumental in shaping India's diamond export infrastructure and enhancing the country’s standing on the world stage.

Strengthening IGI’s Vision and Leadership

The appointment signals IGI’s intent to deepen its commitment to excellence, transparency, and responsible leadership in the certification of diamonds and gemstones. As a widely respected certification authority, IGI sees this move as aligning its governance with industry-best practices and forward-looking strategies.

Tehmasp Printer, Global CEO of IGI, noted that Mehta's inclusion brings invaluable industry insight and strategic direction to the Board. “He is not only a veteran of the diamond sector but someone whose contributions have shaped the ecosystem we operate in today. We believe his guidance will further elevate IGI’s role as a global leader in gemological science,” he said.

A Legacy of Industry Transformation

Mehta’s contributions to the Indian diamond trade are far-reaching. He played a central role in the development of the Bharat Diamond Bourse, which officially opened in 2010 and has since become one of the world’s largest and most influential trading hubs. Over the years, his work has earned him numerous Lifetime Achievement Awards, including from the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).

Reflecting on his new role at IGI, Mehta said, “IGI has consistently upheld the highest standards of gemological certification. In today’s market, where consumer trust is key, the organization’s mission is more vital than ever. I look forward to contributing to its continued evolution and global relevance.”
