India’s first Karigar centre was opened by the jewellery division of corporate major – Titan, reports say. This cente will serve manufacturing of jewellery and be an employment source for the goldsmiths in India. The centre is opened at Hosur in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu, reports suggest.

The centre pays respect to the long years of Indian jewellery craft, and the artists who lend their skills into making this craft appreciable. In effect it aims at boosting the profession, which due to lack of support had diminished as a viable option, reports add.

The Karigar centre provides dedicated work stations, accommodation, food and an entertainment area, creating a more comfortable and conducive environment for the artists.
