diamond world news service

In October 2013, Antwerp recorded an increase in the value and volume of its polished diamond exports and imports, over October 2012. Polished diamond exports rose 5.57 percent in volume, while in value terms it rose 25.82 percent. The rise in exports is being attributed to the increased consumption, especially in the US and a lesser increase noted in Hong Kong and Singapore, as along with the forthcoming holiday season.

Imports of polished diamonds were up 5.67 percent in volume terms and in value terms it increased 14.67 percent.

The trade in rough diamond imports decreased 3 percent, while there was a 4.13 percent drop in the trade of rough diamond exports in the said month. In volume terms, imports decreased 16.37 percent and exports dropped 14.36 percent. Due to a small overcapacity of rough diamonds, the worldwide production was slightly reduced.
