India’s polished diamond exports rise 36% in August

In August 2013, there has been a 35.9 percent (on y-o-y basis) increase in India’s polished diamond exports which touched $1.923 billion, reports say. The said exports also rose in volume terms by 23.3 percent to 3.77 million carats. Imports of polished diamonds rose 45 percent to $524.8 million. The country’s net exports stood at $1.398 billion after rising 33.3 percent, reports say.

The exports of rough diamonds dropped 16.1 percent to $135 million, while rough diamond imports rose 32.5 percent to $681.6 million. The net imports rose 50.8 percent valuing $546.6 million, reports suggest.

In the said month, the country’s net diamond account, (valued as the difference between net exports and net imports), stood at $851.4 million ( the same was $686.7 million in August 2012), reports add.
