Amazon.com’s sales up 27% in Q3

Segment sales in north America up 33%

Amazon.com’s third quarter sales rose 27 percent on y-o-y basis to $13.81 billion, reports say.

Sales of electronics and other general merchandise including fine jewelry increased 36 percent to $8.56 billion.

The company’s region-wise segment sales noted an increase of 20 percent in the international markets to $5.92 billion, while in the north American markets the said sales were up 33 percent to $7.88 billion.

Despite the increased sales, the company closed the three months with a net loss of $274 million (net income of $63 million in Q3 of 2011), owing to investments made. Operating loss valued $28 million ($79 million in Q3 of 2011).
