Following the recent alerts by the IGI and DTC regarding the undisclosed submission of CVD Synthetics to grading laboratories in Belgium, India and China, the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council of India has expressed its support to the same. The Council was also firm in communicating its zero tolerance towards such activities.

The Council also informed that it is taking all necessary precautions against the same and will continue to inform its members of this latest development. On 26th February, 2007 it held a seminar and workshop with its members and Apollo & Gemesis Corporation (manufacturers of Synthetic stones). The event was to understand the potential of lab grown diamonds in the long run and define the way forward. The workshop defined the importance of 3Ds; i.e. disclosure, differentiation and detection. It was made mandatory to follow certain rules while dealing with lab grown diamonds and the same was communicated to the entire trade and propagated widely.

The Council affirmed that any violation of consume disclosure rules to this effect will be dealt strictly and can be grounds for suspension, expulsion, or other appropriate disciplinary measures under Code of Ethics as passed by the Council in 2011, including prosecution under consumer protection act of the Government of India.

Also, the Council has expressed its support towards transparency and disclosure that aim at protecting the trade and consumer confidence.
