GJEPC supports jeweller strike in Mumbai

Asks its members to close offices today

The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), the apex body for India’s gem and jewellery trade, has extended its support to the Roll Back of Excise on Jewellery , and the strike called on by Indian gem and jewellery industry associations in Mumbai on March 30th, Friday .

The strike has been proposed by all associations unanimously to support all the jewellers across the country who are on indefinite strike for repeal of excise on jewellery. According to the Union budget 2012, there has been a 1 percent excise duty imposed on unbranded jewellery.

GJEPC has also appealed to its members to keep their offices/businesses closed for the day and support all the jewellery associations of the country to this movement to achieve its purpose.
