Recent developments in the robbery that took place at BaselWorld last year, suggest that the Swiss police have zeroed down on the mastermind behind the robbery. According to reports quoting the Agence France-Presse (AFP), the police note him to be a 54-year-old Croatian man, although his name remains undisclosed. Also, an international warrant has been issued for his arrest.

It may be recalled that the $8.9 million diamond robbery, took place on March 30, 2011 at an Israeli exhibitor’s booth. Eight individuals had their hand in the robbery, of which some distracted staff of the diamond company while one stole four diamonds from the booth window. The diamonds have so far not been recovered.

Reports also suggest that the robbery was allegedly the work of an Eastern European group engaged in theft of jewellery, diamonds and antiques.
