Polished diamond imports into U.S. up 23% in September

In September 2011, U.S. imports of polished diamonds shot up 23 percent on y-o-y basis to $1.798 billion, and polished diamond exports rose 36 percent to $1.682 billion. This culminated into the country’s net imports to be worth $116 million ($230 million in September 2010).

In the said month, rough diamond imports were up a whooping 188 percent to $49 million and rough exports were up by 15 percent to $30 million. the country’s rough diamond imports stood at $19 million ( net rough exports of $9 million in September 2010).

But at the end of the month, the country’s net imports of polished and rough diamonds dropped 39 percent to $135 million.
