Diamantaires Meet PM Regarding Indians Detained in China

A delegation of diamantaires headed by Anoop Mehta, President of Bharat Diamond Bourse and other eminent diamond merchants like Ashok Gajera and Rajubhai met Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh at Delhi recently to apprise him of the plight of when 21 Indian diamond traders who have been detained in China for the last 19 months. The meeting was arranged through Mukesh Gadhvi, MP.

The delegation briefed the PM on how the traders had been detained due to their lapse in following the taxation laws of China. They also described the physical and mental presuures that the detenues have to face as well as the suffering of their family members and children, and how the parents and family of these detenues have had to run from pillar to post to try and find a solution.

The PM expressed optimisim that a positive solution would be found.
