The sensational India International Jewellery Show (IIJS) diamond heist case has been solved less than 24 hours after it occurred and the Mexican nationals who stole a box containing 889 carats of diamonds estimated to be worth $1,450,000 from the Dalumi Diamonds booth at show on Monday have been arrested.

They were apprehended by the Dubai authorities on Tuesday as they were getting ready to board an ongoing flight to Mexico.

This is perhaps one of the few cases where goods stolen at an international gem and jewellery trade show has been recovered, and almost certainly the one that has been solved the fastest.

It may be recalled that the trio responsible for the theft were speedily identified by the early hours of the morning after CCTV records were scanned. The rigorous registration procedures followed by the organisers, under which all visitors are given photo Ids after producing proof of identity (passport details in the case of foreign nationals) and other relevant documents, helped in the identification.

GJEPC officials contacted by diamondworld.net confirmed the arrests and praised the Mumbai police officials for their speedy action in identifying the culprits, tracing the flight they took to flee the country and issuing a wanted alert via Interpol, leading eventually to their arrest in less than 24 hours after the robbery.

Across the industry there is a widespread appreciation over the quick solution and a lot of praise for the procedures and systems that have been followed at the show as well as for the efficiency of the Mumbai police in solving the case.
