Maharani to open Jaipur�s Gem palace show in UK

250 traditional Indian jewellery pieces to be displayed

DNA reports that for the first time, Gayatri Devi will open the jewellery from the Jaipur�s Gem Palace at a UK exhibition. The precious jewels will be displayed at the Gilbert Collections at Somerset House in central London from September 28. Gayatri Devi, who spends much of her time at her London residence, will officially open the exhibition at a private party.

Two hundred and fifty pieces of exquisite traditional Indian jewellery, and contemporary pieces will also be on show. Munnu Kasliwal, whose family established the Gem Palace in 1852 and have been jewellers to Moghul emperors, will also be present at the inauguration.

Among the jewels on display will be gold and enamelled chandelier earrings, cabochon rings, bracelets, beaded necklaces studded with diamonds, emeralds, sapphires and rubies, as well as objects d�art set with precious and semi-precious stones. There will also be a specially designed shop selling a selection of Gem Palace jewellery. Prices for the items on sale will start from �500.

Harry Fane, foremost authority on vintage Cartier, is responsible for bringing the Gem Palace show to London.
