Rajamata Gayatri Devi passes away

Rajamata Gayatri Devi of Jaipur, know for her classic beauty and elegance, died today of paralytic ileus. She was 90.

An avid equestrienne, Gayatri Devi was once included in Vogue magazine’s as one amongst the Ten Most Beautiful Women in the world. Her association with the present day’s Indian gem and jewellery industry is popularly known, with her signature diamond jewellery collection, namely Arisia. She also associated with a social cause initiated by DeBeers during 2008, and designed her ring from the inspirations of the Royal City of Palace Jaipur. The diamonds were supplied by Shrenuj & Co. Ltd. The charity she identified with was Sawai Jai Singh Benevolent.

Rajmata Gayatri Devi’s body has been taken to City Palace in Jaipur. Her funeral is expected to take place at 2.30 pm on Thursday.
