India’s total imports of gem and jewellery for the month of April 2009 dipped by 43.74 percent in dollar terms and amounted to $ 1054.74 million, while the same in April 2008 amounted to $ 1874.63 million. Import of cut and polished diamonds in value terms decreased by 34.90 percent and amounted to $ 427.94 million, while in April 2008 it was valued at $ 657.38 million. Rough diamond imports were lowered by 54.09 percent in dollar terms and were valued at $ 457.98 million, from $ 997.62 million in the same month last year.
