Macy’s total sales drop by 9.3% in February

Online sales increase by 16.2%

During February 2009, Macy’s Inc. faced an 8.5 percent fall in its same-store sales, with its total sales in the period slipping by 9.3 percent. Total sales amounted to $1.576 billion, while in the same month last year they were $1.737 billion.

But the retailer witnessed a 16.2 percent increase in its online sales, (online sales are part of the calculations of same-store sales). Macy’s is present through over 840 department stores across 45 states, under the names of Macy's and Bloomingdale's.
