diamond world news service

Birks & Mayors has decided to shut its Perimeter Mall Mayors location in Atlanta, Georgia, on January 25, 2009, affecting five employees. The retailer has been witnessing 31 percent fall in its companywide sales, which amounted to $66 million between November 2 to December 27, 2008. Its same-store sales dropped by 26 percent, of which, in the U.S., the drop was 31 percent and in Canada it dipped by 19 percent.

Now the focus is on making the best to achieve organisational efficiency, after a bad Christmas sale. The retailer plans to work at strategising new retail, marketing and merchandising ideas to maximise market-share opportunities in the current market slowdown.
