IDL launches cold laser inscription for minute impressions

Technology can inscribe upto 30 micron

diamond world news service

International Diamond Laboratories (IDL) announced a new technological development in laser inscription, through which one can inscribe a diamond certificate number on the stone upto a minimum font size of 30 micron (= 0.03 mm).

This is possible through IDL’s cold laser technology which takes a few seconds. The size of the diamond being determined by the girdle thickness should at least be of 20 pointers (0.20 carat) or more. The inscription can only be seen with a magnifying loupe or a special diamond inscription viewer.

The laser technology addresses the need of security by customers when they purchase diamonds. The technology allows inscriptions like messages, names or symbols to be embedded on the stone, a mark of ownership and value.
