“The Maison is pleased to welcome the Indian actress, producer and philanthropist Deepika Padukone to the family as its newest ambassador,” wrote Cartier in a Tweet posted on its official Twitter account.

Padukone had worn Cartier jewellery to the Cannes Film Festival recently. Naming Deepika Padukone as its brand ambassador, the brand is insinuating that it wants to amplify its presence and footprint in India.

This is not the first high jewellery brand Padukone has been associated with. Chopard had signed on the celebrity last year, not to mention the partnership with French luxury goods company Louis Vuitton.

“As an inspiring actress and committed philanthropist, Deepika embodies the Maison’s spirit and values of celebrating creativity, universality and open-mindedness,” said Cartier’s chief marketing officer Arnaud Carrez said in a statement.

Cartier currently has one flagship store in India, located within Delhi’s luxury shopping mall DLF Emporio.
