The show has helped in maintaining the supply channel of raw material to coloured gemstone exporting members, especially as the pandemic situation has restricted international travel.

Colin Shah, Chairman, GJEPC said, “Jaipur is the global hub for cutting and polishing of coloured gemstones. It processes more than 300 different varieties of precious and semi-precious gemstones, which includes emerald, tanzanite, morganite among several others. However, being an import-oriented industry, availability of good quality rough gemstones is a prerequisite for the sector. By organising India Rough Gemstones Sourcing Show, GJEPC is making sure that the export activities resume in full throttle as manufacturing activities are back to normal and there is ease in Covid Crisis. The aim is to give direct access of rough gemstones to manufacturers without having to travel to different mining countries for sourcing roughs.”

Rough rubies and emeralds were offered by two participating mining companies from Mozambique and Zambia. Out of the 82 lots of rubies displayed, 77 lots were sold to buyers, and out of the 37 lots of emeralds on offer, 36 were acquired. In all, rough gemstones worth $27.38 million (Rs.206 crore) were displayed at the show.
