Diamond merchants crowd at Varachha in Surat breaking social distancing norms

The GJEPC & SDA have requested the merchants to avoid assembling at the market to avoid spread of Covid-19

According to a report by Times of India, the councils have requested the diamond merchant sin Surat not to assemble at Varaccha's mini bazar and conduct business digitally as much as possible. 

There are a around 5000 diamond merchants in this area and the report suggested that per day, business worth 500 crores is conducted by the merchants, where in the procure the diamonds, which in turn are sent to Mumbai. 

Social distancing in the diamond business continues to be a challenge as trading of diamonts without contact remains an issue. SDA has stated that till the authorities come back with guidelines, they have appealed to the merchants to not visit the market.
