The age of the stone is estimated at about 2 billion years. Further mineralogical analysis will reveal more precise numbers.

“This is a true sign to find such a large and high-quality diamond just around the end of the year. The Nature has already endowed us in 2019. For example, a heart-shaped diamond was mined at the Udachnaya pipe just before Valentine's Day. Surely, such findings are very remarkable," said Evgeny Agureev, Deputy CEO of ALROSA.

The rough diamond will be sent to the United Selling Organization of ALROSA for a detailed evaluation.

ALROSA'S Nyurba Mining and Processing Division was established on March 6, 2000. The division operates two deposits: Nyurbinskaya and Botoubinskaya pipes. Geologists from the Botuobinskaya exploration expedition discovered the Botuobinskaya pipe in 1994, and mining at the deposit began in 2015. It is famous for a large proportion of gem-quality and near-gem-quality transparent crystals.
