Jayam appeal discounted by court

According to reports Bloomberg, The UK Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal of Jayam NV, a Belgium-based jeweller. The case was against De Beers’ “Supplier of Choice”. According to the court, which upheld the March ruling in London's High Court, the sales programme was legal and fair.

Jayam’s lawyer Charles Hollander had argued during a December 11 hearing, that De Beers’ decision to restrict the number of diamonds to be supplied based on past purchases is unfair and in breach of the contract with the company.

“Reading the judge's judgment as a whole and not isolating particular sentences or paragraphs, I find it quite impossible to accept that the judge lost sight of the question before him,” ruled justice Peter Gibson.
