The Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group (DGJG), a jewellery trade association, said that retail jewellery sales during the recently-concluded Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) crossed $272 million (AED1 billion), a 25 per cent increase over initial estimates, according to reports.

“The jewellery sector has benefited tremendously during this DSF through increased number of shoppers from within and outside the United Arab Emirates (UAE),” said DGJG managing director Tawhid Abdullah.

Around 350 gold jewellery outlets took part in the shopping festival, which saw one lucky winner walking away with a kilogram of gold on each day, over a span of 45 days.
