DDI appoints Dorothée Gizenga as first Execurive director

Dorothée Gizenga has been appointed as the first executive director of the Diamond Development Initiative (DDI). She will occupy office from March 17, 2008. She has in the past been a part in the creation and development of the DDI. DDI board of directors chairman, Ian Smillie, said “Dorothée brings a huge range of experience and skills to the DDI, and we are very much looking forward to working with her as she takes up this challenging position.”

Gizenga has worked at PAC and helped implement projects related to the Kimberley Process, the International Conference for Peace in the Great Lakes Region of Africa, and the prevention of violence against women in conflict zones. She holds many such such NGO related work credits. Her experience includes policy development, international negotiation, evaluation, project design, management and coordination, and working with disadvantaged and marginalised groups. The DDI intends to bring forth solutions for the political, social and economic challenges in the African diamond mining sector, by bringing together NGOs, governments and the private sector.
