Jewellery retailers throughtout Maharashtra to stay closed on May 30

In a special meet organised jointly by the All India Gems & Jewellery Trade Federation (GJF) and the state association of jewellers, the Maharshtra Rajya Saraf Mahamandal (MSRM) in mumbai announcement declaring all the jewellery retailers in the state of Maharashtra to stay shut for a day on May 30th to draw attention to a spate of robberies over the last 11 months in which Rs. 10 crore ($2.47 million) in jewellery was stolen, was made.

Over 25,000 jewellers from 32 districts of the state are also expected to join a peace march in Mumbai. “Our prime concern is to get security for jewellers,” said GJF chairman Ashok Minawala. Both the GJF and MSRM are expected to call for urgent action at a meeting with the Maharashtra chief minister.
