India’s gem and jewellery exports in February 2016 valued US$ 3.90 billion with a 12.64 percent growth on y-o-y basis, wherein in February 2015 the said value stood at US$ 3.47 billion, reports say.

The country’s cut and polished diamond exports in February this year indicated a marginal 1.93 percent increase (on y-o-y basis) to US$ 2.34 billion. Exports of gold jewellery were up 74.43 percent to US$ 844.59 million, reports add.

The import figures of rough diamonds also indicated a jump, that of 37.07 percent in value to US$ 1.55 billion. The volume of the said imports were at 15.60 million carats, rising 16.5 percent, as per reports. Cut and polished diamond imports declined to US$ 222.11 million from US$ 405.28 million in February 2015.

Other segments like silver jewellery indicated a rise in exports, with the value at US$ 266.7 million from US$ 106.34 million in the said period last year. The coloured gemstone segment noted a drop of 3.32 percent in February 2016 in exports to US$ 65.20 million (US$ 67.44 million in February 2015).
